Clinical operations serve as the scaffolding around a patient visit, influencing the ease or difficulty with which patients navigate different aspects of their care. In the context of contraceptive care, providing comprehensive, integrated services in primary care settings requires specific attention to explicitly identifying reproductive health needs, optimizing visit workflows and attention to room set-up. CHCs consequently may wish to examine their workflows and conduct tests of change – cycles to test change on a small scale, see how it works, and refine before implementing on a broader scale – as part of their efforts to improve patient experience with contraceptive counseling and access to high quality contraceptive care, as well as update their clinical protocols to outline processes and set expectations for delivering high quality contraceptive care to patients.
The following resources provide concrete guidance, tools, and information to assist CHCs with operations-focused QI efforts related to contraceptive care.
