Improvement Process

Once a project becomes part of a CHC’s quality agenda, QI teams engage staff and clinicians to implement changes to how they operate and provide care. In the context of this project, operational changes may include, but are not limited to, identifying missed opportunities for pregnancy prevention or contraception screening, adjusting workflows and staffing so that patient who desire contraceptive counseling and care can access those services on a same-day basis, and stocking all exam rooms for the provision of all contraceptive methods. Regardless of the specific changes being tested, the Model for Improvement can be used to engage teams in rapid improvement at the operational level.

As described in the Quality Improvement section of the Leadership category area [L5], the Model for Improvement provides a framework to accelerate improvement using Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSAs) to test changes. This following content is intended to support improvement teams to implement PDSA cycles aimed at improving health center operations in the context of this project.
