Apply a racial justice lens, addressing structural inequalities that may influence patient experience of care and health outcomes and workplace satisfaction.1 Racial justice is the systematic fair treatment of all people, resulting in equitable opportunities and outcomes. It seeks to move beyond “anti-racism,” and involves deliberate activities aimed at achieving and sustaining racial equity. Applying a “racial justice lens” refers to the practice of pausing to reflect on the racial equity and inclusion implications at every decision point and every stage of the work.
Action Step(s)
- Examine the ways the CHC may perpetuate patterns of racial inequity, exclusion, and divisions and how they potentially might be contributing to inequities.
- Develop a strategic plan for addressing inequities using approaches identified in collaboration with staff, patients, and other stakeholders.
- Use this assessment tool to assess the CHC’s commitment to anti-racism and dismantling white supremacy.
